Identity

Lately I’ve been struggling with my identity. I don’t really know where I fit anymore. Not at work. Not with my friends. Not in my community. It feels like everyone else is moving forward, finding their place, settling into who they are, and I’m still standing in the same spot trying to figure out what I’m supposed to be.

It’s a strange feeling to look at your life and realize you don’t recognize the roles you used to fill. Work doesn’t feel like it fits the way it used to. The friendships I counted on feel different. The sense of belonging I used to have in certain spaces feels like it slipped out of my hands when I wasn’t paying attention.

I keep trying to understand what changed.

Did I change? Did everything else change? Did I just stop pretending things made sense? Or did I just start noticing?

It’s hard to admit that I don’t know where I belong right now. I feel disconnected from the version of me who used to feel grounded. I feel disconnected from the people around me. I feel disconnected from the things that used to give me direction. It’s like I’m watching my own life from the outside and trying to figure out where I’m supposed to step in.

And the worst part is how still everything feels for me while everyone else seems to be moving. People are building careers, deepening friendships, finding communities, creating routines that make sense. And I’m here trying to understand why I feel stuck. Why I feel like I’m waiting for something to click. Why I feel like I’m floating instead of rooted.

I don’t have answers. I don’t have clarity. I don’t have a neat explanation.

I just know I’m in a place where I don’t feel like I fit anywhere, and I’m trying to sit with that without judging myself for it. Identity is messy. Belonging is messy. And right now, I’m in the middle of that mess trying to figure out who I am and where I’m supposed to be.
